My son is off on his first missions trip. He will be gone a total of 6 weeks. Now after 2.5 weeks, I'm really starting to miss him.
Most of all, I miss the many faces of Matt Molenaar.
I miss his silly antics....
I miss the various objects he puts on his head or face....
The bible says that laughter - or a merry heart is a good medicine, and I would have to agree wholeheartedly!
Ever since the day my son was born - he has made me smile or laugh. Now as a teenager - he lives to make someone smile. Its a gift. He is a gift and a reflection of Jesus. Did Jesus laugh lots?
Many of us never consider that Jesus laughed, or what He would have looked like... laughing... at children... with children... at the simple joys in life.
Today I'm grateful for a son - who constantly reminds me that:
A cheerful disposition is good for your health; gloom and doom leave you bone-tired.

Funny!
The other day Hannah and I were walking to school..she was wearing a jester hat..she asked me exactly what it was for b/c wasn't it about making people laugh..and I explained to her that a long time ago the king of the castle hired someone (usually dressed like a jester) to entertain and make them laugh...She decided she wanted that job. So I asked her who the "king" was (thinking she'd say Mike) Well it's God mom. I make him laugh all the time!!

Hi, Karen Williams sent me your link. I would be interested in connecting with you with regards to having a daughter with special needs. My Rachel is 2... and yes, I can understand the sentiments and accompanying feelings of your post about living your dreams through your kids. Looking for a connection...

Laughter has been a soothing medicine in my household over the past 5 years.
Recalling Matt and Derek moments bring a chuckle or two... it also reminds me of a TON of clean-up!!
You baby will be home soon!!
I bet Matt will have plenty of stories to keep you laughing for days when he returns home.
I'm sure Matt will have some great stories!
Hi Cheryl! Beautiful blog!! And I agree - your son has the gift of laughter and joy - i'm sure the Lord laughs with him often. He is an absolute treasure. I'm also trusting our kids will come home with enlarged hearts...having learned to trust more and knowing the goodness of God in new ways.
Interesting...I became a nurse wanting to be a missionary and went to YWAM to prepare and alas, God sent me home as well! I too have learned that we are all missionaries wherever God plants us! I came home to fall deeply in love with Jesus and to be part of raising up the next generation to go out to the four corners of the earth!
Blessings dear friend and fellow longing, praying mother...

Ok, Karen... you're making me cry now.
You are a treasure beyond words. If only my friends in Ontario could know you... a woman with a story...and a road less traveled.
